“Jesus Christ, I Cannot Die”, Akolade Arowolo Accused Of Killing Banker Wife To Die By Hanging

Ayo Arowolo

“Jesus Christ, I cannot die”, that was what Akolade Arowolo was screaming, after he was sentenced to death by a Lagos High Court today.

Arowolo, who allegedly stabbed his wife to death in June 2011, was convicted on a one- count charge of murder by Justice Lateefat Okunnu and sentenced accordingly.

Presiding judge, Lateefat Okunnu held that Mr. Arowolo was guilty of murder and ruled that he should be sent to the gallows.

In a long judgment lasting more than two and half hours, presiding judge ruled that Ayo was guilty of killing his wife Mrs. Titilayo Arowolo.

The judge, Mrs. Lateefat Okunnu relied on testimonies and evidences of fifteen witnesses including family members of the deceased, investigating police officers, photographers and Chief pathologist of Lagos State to make her judgment.

Mr. Arowolo broke down in the dock during the judgment and said many times while being taken away that he would not die of the judgment.

He shouted “Jesus Christ, I cannot die” many times as he was led away by prison warders.

This is sad, very sad!

Why should a man this handsome kill his wife?

Do you think he should be killed too?

l still strongly believe in divine intervention. It is quite unfortunate that this youngman killed his wife as alleged and i really say the presiding jurdge has done his job well to collect and collate proper information gathered in the proceeding of the case,i do also hope the police carried out proper investigation into the matter.I hereby ask that this young man should be sentense to prison, rehabilitated, medically examine and let him live.I pray that the lord grant the family of the murdered wife grace to bear the.I also beg that arowolos jurdgement should be reappeal and look into for alternative to death sentense.Pls my merciful governor fashola pls arowolo need your mercy.Mr arowolo mercy will come your way but you need jesus.

I wish I could say that he deserves it, but I can’t judge. To me he doesn’t deserve death, but another sort of punishment to remind him of his deeds. From what I hear, he had moved on with another woman after his wife’s death which shows no sign of remorse. Even after the wife was warned severally to leave him due to constant beatings, she stayed put. Maybe, a military torture could have done the work with some years in jail. To me death defeats the purpose. But could serve as a deterrent to others.

Only God knew what happened. Sometimes, the FACT may be different from the TRUTH. People will always judge based on the truth that they know…not on the truth that the person concerned knows.

If only death penalty can be passed on corruption at all levels of government , Nigeria will be heaven on earth

Only our Almighty creator is the true judge, why judging others? Why not leave vengeance for God?If God could have mercy on us in all our trespasses, then who are we to forgive our fellow brothers and sisters?Only God, his late wife and himself understand all what transpired.Who can say if he is guilty or not?May God direct our thoughts (Amen).

Are we to understand from the editorial that only ugly people kill? This malaise has so eaten deepinto our subconscious that people profile others and pass judgement on account of one’s looks . It’s unfortunate that this Hollywood and Bollywood trait where the hero is always good looking and the villain ugly, should have found its way into people’s psyche s and subsequently, into what should otherwise have been an impartial and learned account of the the tradegy.

For the 1st time I am reading comments where people addressed issue based on its merits with less of sentiments. How better it would be if Nigerians can deal with other issues bothering us in the same manner. Imagine Akolade Arowolo bears a muslim name…people would have even jumped out if the matter and start name calling and raining abusive words on other muslims and the religion islam at large. On the matter, human life is sacred and should not be taken by fellow human. The case should serve as lessons for all to be careful in whatever we do whether in good mood or otherwise. Anger doesn’t know his master is weak, they say!

I love your comment and it is true to the point. If he had been a Muslim – with name like Ahmed, Mohammad – Islam would have been attacked and other Muslim called bad names.

Let us hope Nigerians can reason positively like this.

What still confuses me is why he really killed his wife especially after making love to her and on his birthday for that matter, I still don’t get it, was he under any demonic influence or sth?!!! Anyways, the deed has been done which is irreversible, so sad…

, I think the punishment given to him should be reconsidered as two wrongs can’t make a right but that does not imply he doesn’t deserve the punishment, he deserves it but on a second thought it wouldn’t bring back his dead wife (may her soul rest in the bosom of the Lord), let him live and bear it in his conscience for the rest of his life that he actually killed his wife..Instead of killing him let him be kept behind bars. No one really deserves death which is why killing shouldn’t take place in the first place as we only have one chance to live on earth…

People should learn to listen to their parents and avoid being carried away by love..If the lady had listened to her parents all these wouldn’t have happened, she was obsessed with a cute/handsome/tall/attractive guy and refused to spot the bad character of the guy and even when she spotted the bad character she turned a blind eye to it and said to herself that love is all that mattered I guess..May her soul find rest in the bosom of God…

I really feel for her parents and loved ones….The rate at which marriages are failing is regrettable…Getting married is not the ultimate goal in life anyway and people should get married to their friends instead of lovers, love is unreliable
